Ecological performance indexes of Zaporizhstal JSC for 2010
Dear Ladies and Gentlemen! Zaporizhstal JSC, being a socially conscious enterprise, carries out such policy with regard to ecological performance indexes too. Fulfilling ecological measures, introducing new technologies and environmental protection equipment, the Works takes care of the ecological well-being of the Zaporozhye region. Ecological monitoring of the operation of the environmental protection equipment, analysis of the process flows on basic and fuel consuming equipment allow to develop and introduce measures to reduce harmful influence on all the environment components. Data on emissions of harmful substances into atmosphere, discharge into water reservoirs and waste management in 2010 are presented below. 
Increasing of actual emissions of harmful substances in 2010 in comparison with 2009 is connected with output expansion in all the process stages. At the same time to reduce harmful emissions into atmosphere the Works carries out work on repair and adjustment of gas-cleaning equipment, environmental and thermal testing and commissioning of combustion of fuel-uses equipment, ecological and heat engineering tests and adjustment of processes of the combustion procedure on fuel-using equipment. Specific emissions of harmful substances in comparison with 2009 have decreased from 17.6 kg / tone to 17.54 kg / tone of steel. The Works successfully carries out work on implementation and support of Joint Implementation (JI) projects under the Kyoto Protocol. Today at the Works the technical documentation has developed and from the Ministry of Environmental Protection of Ukraine received the letters of support on 3 JI projects: - Reconstruction of the oxygen-compressor workshop and building of the new air separation unit VRU – 60 - Installation of turbo-generator at the heat and power plant and the use of the Works’ waste energy for hot-water supply of the city - Reconstruction of sintering and blast furnace production. Construction of a pulverized coal injection into the blast furnaces. The reduction of greenhouse gases progress confirmed after monitoring the first two projects. 
hanks to the implementation of environmental measures and measures regarding rational use of water resources, repairs and preventive maintenance of the equipment, reconstruction and modernization of purification plants the operational personnel of the Works ensures functioning of water-protective facilities continuously and according to the design objectives. 
In order to reduce the amount of waste to be placed, the Works pursues a policy of utilizing the waste in its own production. On 15 January 2010 a ceremony awarding the winners of all-Ukrainian project "Ecology, environment and natural resources in Ukraine." held in Reception House Government of Ukraine (Kiev). Environmental policy performed by Zaporizhstal JSC, environmental activities and projects were admitted at the state level and awarded the prize in the nomination "For the introduction of advanced environmentally safe technologies." Diploma from the Ministry of Environmental Protection of Ukraine signed by the Minister G. Filipchuk and from the Verkhovna Rada Committee on environmental policy, nature management and liquidation of consequences of Chernobyl disaster - Chairman of the Committee A. Semenoga. On 13-16 April 2010 the XIII International Exhibition-Fair "Ecology-2010” took place in Kiev in Expocenter "NAUKA" of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine. The exhibit of Zaporizhstal JSC traditionally held place of honor in the exhibition composition. The First Deputy Minister of Environmental Protection of Ukraine, Nikolai Romanov opened the exhibition. After reviewing the submitted environmental performance of Zaporizhstal JSC he stressed: "... What the Works does, as it directs funds for environmental activities and performs them - all this is the components of success in terms of ecology of the Zaporozhye and the welfare of its inhabitants...” . Advance of the Works were appreciate by the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine. Following the exhibition results Zaporizhstal JSC named the winner and awarded a diploma in the nomination "For the introduction of scientific and environmental development." On 26-28 October 2010 the III International Environmental Forum "Environment-2010” took place in Kiev. Zaporizhstal JSC participated in the forum with exposition, as well as a report on the environmental component of production. Minister of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine Tolstoukhov A.V. played the role of project coordinator. The draft was presented by the first persons of Ukraine - the First Deputy Prime Minister of Ukraine Klyuyev A.P., Environment Minister Zlochevsky N.V. A.P. Klyuyev acquainted with the environmental performance of the Works, the implementation of innovative and environmental technology. At the end of visiting environmental exhibit booth of the Works, the first deputy prime minister noted the high level of production, its environmental friendliness, and wished not to stop there, to work for the benefit of economics and environmental science. Following the forum results Zaporizhstal JSC awarded a diploma of I degree for a significant contribution to research work in the field of environmental protection. The IX All-Ukrainian competition "Environmental quality and safety” sizing up took place In November 2010.
The competition was held by All-Ukrainian public organization "Zhyvaya Planeta" with the support of the Ministry of Environmental Protection of Ukraine. Zaporizhstal JSC become the winner in the category "Environmental quality and production safety." In 2008 at the Works an Integrated Management System of Quality, Environmental Protection and Labour Safety was introduced. In October 2008 the Works underwent certified audit and received a Certificate of conformity of the IMS of Quality, Environmental Protection and Labour Safety of the Works to the requirements of international standards ISO 9001:2000, ISO 14001:2004, ÎÍSŔS 18001:2007, ILO-OSH 2001. Zaporizhstal JSC successfully passed the two supervisory audits (2009 and 2010), the Works has confirmed the conformity of the Integrated System of Management to the international standards. In December 2010 following the audit of the system of environmental management of the Works results Environmental Protection and Radiation Safety Direction of Zaporizhstal JSC was awarded the honorary diploma for outstanding achievements in the development of management systems environment.
