Last Tuesday the assembly hall of the House of Culture “Orbita” could not accommodate all those who wished to get familiarized with the ecological problems of Zaporozhye. Representatives of the local authorities, deputy corps, scientists and specialists of industrial enterprises told the citizens about the environment conditions in the regional center and the execution progress of the programme on overcoming the ecological crisis. In Zaporozhye the city environment is polluted by 160 industrial enterprises. Along with them the continuously increasing volume of atmosphere pollution by automobile transport exhaust gases causes particular uneasiness. Its share, according to the data of 2006, has already amounted to 27%. A certain number of fulfilled measures have already brought good results, stated the Head of the Department on ecological problems of the city council, Igor Broyde. First of all, this is the commissioning of ecological installations at Zaporizhstal. The report of the Chief Specialist on environmental protection of Zaporizhstal JSC, Nikolay Silin, on the prospects of the Works on improvement of the ecological situation, particularly regarding transition of the open-hearth furnace method of steel production to the converter method, allowing to reduce emissions by 2 times, caused standing ovation. |
