In 1930 in Zaporozhye on the territory of the industrial Works the Zaporozhye industrial-preparation site “Scrap metal” of trust " Scrap metal GUMP " was organized. This site was just where the present scrap shop is located. (the first chief of “Scrap metal” was V.Z. Kovalenko).
The basic consumers of scrap metal were factories located on the industrial site.

In July 1935 in connection with the commissioning of the open-hearth furnaces the scrap preparation shop at Zaporizhstal was organized, which was headed by I.I. Pisarev. “Scrap metal” sites were included into the new scrap shop. In 1937 the open-hearth furnace shop slag yard also became a subdivision of the scrap preparation shop. Manual production and loading of lump open-hearth furnace slag took place there. A year later skull-cracker ball No.1 with three cranes and an explosion pit were commissioned. The following year skull-cracker ball No.2 was put into operation.

In 1939 the blast furnace shop pig-iron scrap processing section together with its staff became a subdivision of the scrap preparation shop. After liberation of Zaporozhye from the fascist troops works on restoration of the shop started practically immediately. In 1948 the scrap preparation production was ready to start-up with the commissioning of the first open-hearth furnace. Three skull-cracker balls were operating and flame cutting of scrap was organized.

By the end of 1950 the shop reached its pre-war level of production. A year later the construction of the administrative building finished.

In 1951-1952 the magnetic grab crane in the baling crushing department, the electromagnetic crane of the flame cutting trestle were put into operation and the construction of the granulated slag basin was completed. In 1954 baling press PG-400 was mounted and commissioned. This allowed to process roofing iron waste, wire and chips.
Later the shop was equipped with a more powerful press PG-800. The increase in volume of processed scrap has demanded expansion of the technical base. The shop was equipped with two steam engines and a crane wheelbase rail car. Two-axial low side wagons, transporting scrap to the open-hearth furnaces, were replaced with high side 40-ton platforms.

In five years (from 1955 to1960) Zaporizhstal scrap shop has managed to increase the processing volume of metal charge by 1,5 times, and baling of scrap by 3,5 times. At that time these indices were the best among scrap shops and “Vtorchermet” enterprises of the USSR.

Since 1959 to 1969, ten years running, the efficiency of press PG-800 enlisted the collective of the shop among the best in the country.

In 1966 the shop was equipped with press B-101, shears H-302 and six electric bridge cranes.

In the 90-ies the processing of scrap, due to the reduction of its delivery, reduced. However, in the last years, due to competent economic policy of the management of the Works, the situation stabilized. The shop is increasing its production volume.
